The reason not to cleanse your face with soap

Skin care experts keep saying it over and over again: cleansing your face is an essential step to remove impurities accumulated throughout the day and makeup residues. To put it plainly, after first removing make-up, you must use a specific soap to perfect it. But, especially not with a classic body soap! Irritating to the face, this type of soap eliminates the protective layer of the skin (called the hydrolipidic film). Why is this? Because its formula is too aggressive and not adapted to facial skin. Result ? Sensitized skin, which can cause irritation.

For oily skin, this inadequate cleansing method can cause another problem. By stripping the skin with this type of product, the natural production of oil is further stimulated. In short, it’s the door open to pimples and clogged pores! For dry skin, removing this protective layer can make it even drier, causing expression lines to appear prematurely.

So, what should you use to cleanse your face?

The first step to avoid any type of problem is to choose a facial cleanser according to your skin type (normal, oily, dry or combination). In case of doubt, it is preferable to invest in a product with a neutral PH, compatible with the skin of the face.

I have normal skin (luminous complexion, without imperfections): I opt for a gentle cleanser with moisturizing properties, for example based on aloe vera, ginseng extract or white clay.

I have oily skin (bright complexion): I prefer a cleanser containing salicylic acid, fennel, tea tree, witch hazel or green clay to regulate my sebum.

I have dry skin (stretching): I prefer a cleanser with moisturizing properties, such as oat extract, lemon balm extract, raspberry oil and yellow clay.

I have combination skin (oily T-zone: forehead, nose and chin): I choose a cleanser containing mint or rosemary extract.
